چکیده

The paper describes an edge localization and contour integration technique that is parallel and modular in terms of the communication and computation structures. The technique can also detect corners and junctions accurately. Our technique is biologically motivated, in particular the biological behavior known as dynamic receptive fields or shortterm plasticity. Extensive experiments are conducted on both synthetic and natural data and demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique. keywords: grouping and segmentation, biologically inspired computational model, image features ? 3d Neural Fields and Steerable Filters for Contour-based Person Localization

This paper introduces a way to locate persons in visual images of cluttered scenes using a shape-of-contour approach. The contour which we refer to is that of the upper body of frontally aligned persons. As we know from the Gestalt psychologists, 1 perception utilizes mechanisms to combine discrete sensations in order to assess their spatial and/or temporal relationships (grouping mechanisms). ...

A Neural Model of Visual Contour Integration

We introduce a neurobiologically plausible model of contour integration from visual inputs of individual oriented edges. The model is composed of interacting excitatory neurons and inhibitory interneurons, receives visual inputs via oriented receptive fields (RFs) like those in VI. The RF centers are distributed in space. At each location, a finite number of cells tuned to orientations spanning...

A Neural Model of Contour Integration in the Primary Visual Cortex

Experimental observations suggest that contour integration may take place in V1. However, there has yet to be a model of contour integration that uses only known V1 elements, operations, and connection patterns. This article introduces such a model, using orientation selective cells, local cortical circuits, and horizontal intracortical connections. The model is composed of recurrently connecte...
